9. Different Affiliate Program Types Explained

When you start looking at affiliate marketing, you’ll notice that there are so many different options out there, and it can get overwhelming.

There are two main types of affiliate programs. Self-hosted, individual programs like Amazon Associates and affiliate networks that manage multiple brands under one roof.

Self-Hosted/Individual Programs

Individual programs are run directly by a company, usually through their own website using affiliate software tools.

Many people start with individual programs like Amazon Associates, as you can find almost anything on Amazon. However, Amazon’s commission is notoriously low, so many people often prefer to join other affiliate programs too.

Examples of companies that manage their own affiliate programs include:

  • Amazon
  • Booking.com
  • eBay

Affiliate Networks

Affiliate networks allow you to join multiple programs from one simple dashboard, find links and banners, and track income all in one place.

Depending on what your photography niche is, you may find a few brands through individual programs, but for many, you’re probably going to want to join a couple of the major affiliate networks too.

Some of the most popular affiliate networks include:

  • LTK
  • Awin
  • TravelPayouts
  • ShareASale
  • Impact Radius
  • Pepperjam
  • Skimlinks
